Spring Breakout

There is no better way to start the Gold Panning season in Alberta than our Spring Breakout at Prospectors Point. Once again the.Alberta Gold Prospectors Association (AGPA) and the Edmonton Gold Prospectors Association (EGPA) have banded together to host this Great weekend. Together our clubs make for a fantastic mix of fellowship, skill and fun. As in past years, club members will be able to camp free at the site. Camping will be at the Point campground.. Arrangements have been made to have some quad use in the area.

 

The schedule for the weekend will be;

Friday: Members start arriving at the River. Follow the Signs.

Saturday: 10:00 am to 12:30 pm The AGPA Gold Panning Competition with categories for

Adults, Open to any one over 16 years of age. There may be categories for children and adults, novices and Pros, depending on numbers

Kids. Learn to have fun and to compete in this competition.

Competitions are open to all.. Memberships in The AGPA is $20.00 for a single and $30.00 for the family. The EGPA membership costs $10.00 So if you need too. Sign up!
Lunch is from 12:30pm to1:30 pm

1:30 PM to 2:00 PM Claim Staking, Learn to pace off exact distances before you come

2:00 PM to 5:00 PM The EGPA Sluice Box Competition. Bring those sluice boxes that you have tuned up, those sure-fire inventions that you have made over the winter and what ever secret incantations that you need, to this challenging event. In this competition entrants sluice for a set amount of time and then pan the tailings for a set amount of time. The most gold in the cleanest pan wins.
Remember, you don't have to know exactly what you are doing during these competitions. There is always someone around that would be more than willing to pass along some hints and advice to you. The main thing is that you get out there and give it a try - have fun! And learn along the way.


4:00pm - 4:30pm Dirt Toss, Fill your wee shovel with as much concentrate as you can and throw it into a gold pan some distance away. Challange Chucker Walker, if you dare, you may have a chance to beat him as it is said he only practices with bull.

4:30pm - 5:00pm Pan Toss This is the dangest lookimg frizby you ever saw. People have said that it has a mind of its own.

5:00pm - 6:00 pm Metal Detecting

6:00pm - 7:00pm Barbeque Dinner The day`s activities will wrap-up with a club supplied burger-hot dog dinner for members.

7:00pm - 8:00pm Awards and Prizes

There may also be a Nail Pounding Event If we can find someone to organize it.

Sunday; Some years there is an informal potluck breakfast followed by more panning and sluicing
